Laura PetermanLaura Helen (Bauer) Peterman, 92, of Rushville died at 6:56 a.m. Aug. 17, 2024, at Rushville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born March 6, 1932, the daughter of Israel and Laura C. Deane Bauer. She married James Peterman on July 31, 1955, in Rushville. He survives.

Also surviving are one son, Richard (and Judy) Peterman of Rushville; one daughter, Janet (and Virgil) Gorsuch of Rushville; three brothers, Francis Bauer, Lewis (and Jane) Bauer of Rushville and Raymond (and Diana) Bauer of Clayton, Calif.; four grandchildren; four step grandchildren; and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren.

She attended Houston a one-room school, grades 1-8, then graduated from Rushville High School. She was employed at Schuyler Telephone Co. and was the last phone switchboard operator before automated calling was introduced. Jim and Helen started their own business, Peterman TV and Appliance in February, 1965. They successfully ran the business for 30 years before retiring and turning it over to their children which have also ran it for 30 years and is still in operation.

She was a member of a women’s golf league.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Pastor Stacy Tomich officiating. Burial will follow at the Rushville City Cemetery. Friends may call at 10 a.m. until time of service.
