Jean PhillipsLaVerta “Jean” Phillips, 95, of Canton died Jan. 8, 2023, at The Loft Rehabilitation and Nursing Home in Canton.

She was born Aug. 2, 1927, in Ray, a daughter of William and Thelma Trone Morris. She married Walter “Miles” Phillips Jr. on Nov. 29, 1947, in Rushville. He preceded her in death in 2014.

She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Nancy Carrison; one sister, Maradel Donaldson; and one granddaughter, Angela Fulton.

Surviving are seven children, Phyllis Fulton of Borger, Texas, Jerry (and Rose) Phillips of New Athens, Gary (and Dianne) Phillips, Linda (the late Tom) Reid, Lori Phillips and Randy (and Heather) Phillips, all of Canton, and Ron (and Chris) Phillips of Lewistown; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was a member of Maples Mill United Methodist Church, and a member of “Treat You Right”.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will take place immediately following the services at Rushville Cemetery. Following the burial, a gathering will be held at the Schuyler Penney Event Venue, 207 West Washington St., Rushville.

Memorials may be made to Maples Mill United Methodist Church.
