Myrna Powell

Myrna PowellMyrna Powell, 86, of Rushville died at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 27, 2020, at the Rushville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rushville.

She was born Dec. 14, 1933, in Schuyler County, a daughter of James and Bertha Gorey Bozard Gorsuch. She married Dick Powell on June 27, 1952, in Rushville. He survives.

Also surviving are three children, Rick (and companion Barb Tolle) Powell of Camden, Mitzi (and Mike) Kruse and Rex (and Kay) Powell, all of Rushville; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Rodney Powell; one brother, Gerald Gorsuch; two sisters, Myrtle Terry and Letha Hickman; and two grandchildren, Carrie Powell and Darren Powell.

A 1951 graduate of Rushville High School, she first worked at Bader and Company Elevator in Rushville. She later worked as a bookkeeper at JC Penney and Schuyler Farmers Service. For many years, she was clerk and bookkeeper for the family-owned businesses consisting of Schuyler Livestock Sales in Rushville and the Hersman Livestock Sales in Hersman and Dick Powell Auction Service.

She grew up in and was first a member of Brooklyn United Methodist Church and then later Sugar Grove United Methodist Church, south of Rushville.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Pastor Charla Meyers and Barbara Wooldridge officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackburn Cemetery, near Brooklyn. Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Sugar Grove United Methodist Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
