Russell PlattRussell “Russ” E. Platt, 85, of West Peoria died Jan. 23, 2018, at OSF Medical Center in Peoria.

He was born June 3, 1932, in Vermont, the son of Edward and Sarah Bohannon Platt. He married Betty Bair on March 3, 1957, in Vermont. She survives.

Also surviving are two children, Michael E. (and Genia) Platt of West Peoria and Janet (and William) Frietsch of Elmwood; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He served in the U.S. Navy and worked as a Maintenance Engineer with Illinois Mutual for 35 years before retiring.

He was a past-president and treasurer for Independent Sports Club, a past president of the Manual High School Booster Club, he was a member of the Elks Lodge #20, the Masonic Blue Lodge, the Shriner’s, the Greater Peoria Shriner’s Club and T&T Club. He also received the Greater Peoria Sports Hall of Fame Neve Harms Award in 2007.

A funeral service was held Monday at Davison-Fulton-Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria. Burial was at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.

Memorials may be made to Independent Sports Club in Peoria, Shriner’s Children’s Hospital or Elks Lodge #20.
