VIRGINIA E. (BURNSIDE) PRATHER

Virginia PratherVirginia E. Prather, 88, of Rushville died at 9:10 a.m. July 7, 2017, at the Elms in Macomb.

She was born May 14, 1929, in Rushville, a daughter of Henry and Frieda Brown Burnside. She married Virgil Prather on Oct. 21, 1950, in Rushville. He preceded her in death on April 13, 1991.

Also preceding her in death are one son, Paul Prather; one daughter, Sheila “Hag” Prather; one sister, Beverly Debertha Melvin; one brother, Ted Burnside; and two great-grandchildren.

Surviving are her children, Rex (and Nicky) Prather, Victor Prather and Marshall (and Glenna) Prather, all of Rushville, Vicky Prather of Bushnell and Penny (and Michael) Scrogum of Macomb; one brother, Tom (and Barbara) Burnside of Chesterfield, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She graduated from Rushville High School in 1946. Prior to her marriage, she worked for Fred Krause Drug Store, Hornsby’s, Farmer’s Elevator and Schuyler Locker. After her marriage, she was a dedicated wife and mother. Following the death of her husband, she began a career as a caregiver for the elderly.

She was a member of Rushville Free Methodist Church and lived out her faith daily.

Services were held Tuesday at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Reverend Rob Kirkham officiating. Burial was in the Rushville City Cemetery.
