Joseph PilkingtonJoseph Charles Pilkington, 88, of Nauvoo died Jan. 9, 2014, at his home.

He was born July 20, 1925, a son of Joseph Franklin and Agatha Wellner Pilkington. He married Lola May Scheetz on Oct. 24, 1951, in Nauvoo. She preceded him in death on Jan. 1, 1996.

He also was preceded in death by his two grandchildren, Benjamin Joseph Gibson and Patricia Kay Heady.

Surviving are three daughters, Connie (and John) Hobart of Warsaw, Theresa Diane (and Renne) Crabtree of Vermont and Rachel (and B.J.) Gibson of Nauvoo; four sons, Edward (and Karla) Pilkington and Dan Pilkington, both of Nauvoo, John Pilkington of Summersville, Mo., and Michael (and Love Joy) Pilkington of Chattanooga, Tenn.; one sister, Genevieve Lewis of rural Nauvoo; 25 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

He graduated from Nauvoo High School. He had worked several jobs, including Night Watchman at Nauvoo Academy and as custodian and bus driver for Nauvoo-Colusa school district. He also had farmed in the Nauvoo area and had worked at I.R.C. in Burlington, Iowa.

He was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus in Nauvoo.

A Mass of Christian burial was held Monday at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Father Tom Szydlik and Father Tony Trosley as celebrants. Burial was in Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery in Nauvoo. Lamporte-St. Clair Funeral Home of Nauvoo was in charge of arrangements.
