He was born Nov. 25, 1934, in Deerfield Township, a son of Carl and Jane Powell. He married Carol J. Gilmore on Aug. 28, 1954, in Checkrow. She preceded him in death on Oct. 9, 1989.
He also was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
Surviving are one daughter, JoEllyn (and Elmer) Wilson of Smithfield; two sons, Donald Powell of Peoria and Lawrence (and Sharon) Powell of Forest View; one brother, John Powell of Canton; one sister, Mary Christian of Banner; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He retired from Cuba School District 3.
He was a member and devoted elder of Cuba Christian Church.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Cuba Christian Church with Reverend Mike Arnett officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Cuba Cemetery. Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba is in charge of arrangements.
