Velma PostVelma Edith Post, 92, of Rushville died at 4 a.m. Aug. 25, 2012, at Snyder's Vaughn-Haven Nursing Home.

She was born Nov. 22, 1919, on a homestead near Bingham, Neb., a daughter of Jim and Martha Fitzgerald Gray. She married Marshall Post on April 16, 1938, in Davenport, Iowa. He preceded her in death on Aug. 5, 1987.

She also was preceded in death by one son, Douglas Delray Post, professor emeritus of biology; three sisters; and four brothers.

Surviving are one daughter, Marsha Post of Philmont, N.Y.; one son, Delbert (and Elizabeth) Post of Tampa, Fla.; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She grew up in the Nebraska Sandhills and graduated from Alliance, Neb., High School.

She worked at A and P Grocery briefly and later at Knapp Jewelers for 24 years, both in Rushville. She also assisted her husband Marshall working on the farm.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Rushville, United Methodist Women, Rushville Women's Federation, and volunteered with Adult Literacy Program, Schuyler Jail Museum and Genealogical Center and Cass-Schuyler Hospice.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. Steve Pichaske officiating. Burial will follow in Salem-Wilcoxen Cemetery near Bryant. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
