Verna Peacock

Verna PeacockVerna Maxine Peacock, 88, of Rushville died at 11:26 a.m. March 22, 2012, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

She was born Nov. 28, 1923, in Rushville, a daughter of Otis and Florence McNeely Campbell. She married John Henry Peacock on Feb. 18, 1942, in Palmyra, Mo. He preceded her in death on Aug. 25, 1964.

She also was preceded in death by four great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Campbell; and seven sisters, Betty Bennett, Henrietta Robinson, Hallie Orton, Mildred Crenshaw, Ruth Beebe, Evelyn O'Malley and Luvenia McAnally.

Surviving are five sons, John (and Carol) Peacock, Wayne (and Linda) Peacock and Ralph Peacock, all of Rushville, Gerry (and Joyce) Peacock of Bloomington and Steve (and Cathy) Peacock of Frederick; 17 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She attended Rushville First United Methodist Church and worked at Hill Convalescent Home in Rushville for many years. She and her companion, Vernie Carnahan, owned and operated The Wiener Shack at area fairs and community events for many years.

Services were held Monday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. Steve Pichaske officiating. Burial was in Rushville City Cemetery.
