Verlin PeacockVerlin Peacock, 92, of Rushville died at 1:50 a.m. Jan. 17, 2012, at Snyder's Vaughn-Haven Nursing Home in Rushville.

He was born Aug. 9, 1919, in Buena Vista Township, Schuyler County, a son of Archibald and Clara Van Order Peacock. He married Neva Icenogle on Jan. 23, 1943, in Palmyra, Mo. She preceded him in death on Jan. 23, 2007.

He also was preceded in death by one son, Lyle Peacock; one brother, Virgil Peacock; and one sister, Letha Claassen.

Surviving are two granddaughters, Cynthia Phillips and Vicky (and Mark) Miller, both of Nauvoo; and three great-grandchildren.

He first worked as a clerk at Brown and Scott. He then managed the Wine Brothers Furniture Store and owned and operated Peacock Home Improvement from 1958 to 1987. He also did lawn mower repair and sharpened lawn mower blades for many years.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Reverend Steve Pichaske officiating. Burial will follow in Rushville City Cemetery. Friends may call from 8 a.m. Thursday with the family meeting friends one hour prior to the service.
