James William Petrie, 85, of Media, Pa., died at 5:45 p.m. June 28, 2011, at Granite Farms Estates in Media, Pa.

He was born Dec. 3, 1925, in Terre Haute, Ind., the son of James Merrill and Dorothy Edna Creasey Petrie. He married Evelyn Louise Painter on April 10, 1947, in Rochester, Minn. She preceded him in death on Aug. 4, 2007.

Surviving are one daughter, Dorothy Lynn (and Jeffrey) Celebre of Wallingford, Pa.; one son, Bruce William Petrie of New Castle, Pa.; one sister, Mary Ann Page of Muskegan, Mich.; two grandsons; and three great-grandchildren.

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War serving on the Battleship USS Alabama, BB 60.

He graduated from Purdue University with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering in 1949. He was a mechanical engineer at FMC-Link Belt within Material Handling Systems Division for 36 years, retiring in 1985.

He was a member of Glen Ellyn Presbyterian Church in Glen Ellyn and Sigma Nu Fraternity at Purdue University.

Graveside services were held Saturday, July 2, 2011, at Rushville City Cemetery with Rev. Mike Cahill officiating. Military rites were conducted by U.S. Navy and Schuyler American Legion Post #4. Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville was in charge of arrangements.
