Lucille PoppenhagerLucille Poppenhager, 89, of Astoria died at 9:50 p.m. May 21, 2007, at Astoria Gardens & Rehab Center.

She was born March 17, 1918, in Ray, the daughter of Earl and Della Warrington Gillenwater. She married John B. Poppenhager on Aug. 4, 1936, in Missouri. He died Dec. 7, 2004.

She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Virgil and Kenneth Gillenwater.

Surviving are three daughters, Diane Dean of Astoria, Sherry (and Freddy) Henninger of Rushville and Susan (and Jerry) Barrett of Bristow, Va.; one brother, Robert (and Mary Lou) Gillenwater of Rushville; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

She was owner and operator of John’s Shoe and Clothing Store in Astoria for 33 years, retiring in 1981.

She was a member of Astoria United Methodist Church and Order of the Eastern Star #226 of Ipava for over 50 years.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Gary Sheets officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the memorial home, with Eastern Star services provided by her lodge at 8 p.m. Burial will be in Astoria Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to her church or Astoria Gardens & Rehab Center.
