Ernest "Ernie" PottsErnest "Ernie" Potts, 84, of Astoria formerly of Rushville and Taylorville, died at 6:07 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, in the emergency room at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.

He was born Nov. 22, 1919, in Taylorville, a son of Lenial Otis and Ella Florence Parrish Potts. He married Rosetta "Rose" Melvin Potts on May 29, 1943, in St. Charles, Mo. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Patti (and Jerry) Bubb of Astoria; one brother, Ben (and Katie) Peat of Palmer; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Doris Stretton.

A World War II Army veteran, he served in the 3rd Battalion FASDETS and was a member of an American Legion post for more than 60 years.

He was manager of several Farm Co-ops.

He also played in the Potts Four Band in the early 1960s.

He was a member of Church of Christ-Christian Church in Rushville, where he served as an elder.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Gary Sheets officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. tonight at the memorial home. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by Astoria American Legion Post 25.
