H. L. "Ted" Price

H.L. "Ted" PriceHomer Lewis "Ted" Price, 95, of Mount Sterling, died at 9:09 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Mount Sterling.

He was born May 24, 1908, in Schuyler County, a son of Frank and Daisy Horton Price. He married Thelma Noecker on June 21, 1939. She died July 2, 1985. He later married Dorothy Logan Egbert on Dec. 12, 1987. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Frank Price (and Florence) of Mount Sterling, Ned Price of Mount Sterling; one stepson, Gary (and Jean) Egbert of Minneapolis, Minn.; one stepdaughter, Jane (and Bob) Wort of Mount Sterling; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He graduated from Astoria High School and attended Eureka College.

He dedicated his life to teaching primarily agriculture. From 1933 to 1938, he taught school in Bluff City and Browning. After receiving a master's degree from the University of Illinois in 1939, he taught agriculture in schools in Indiana. In 1942, he came to Mount Sterling where he taught agriculture for eight years. From 1950-1963, he was the principal of the Brown County High School. After a one-year stint as principal of the Versailles school, he retired from the teaching profession in 1974. He also worked in the real estate business until 1970. He then served four years as Assistant County Superintendent of Schools of Schuyler County.

He was a member of the First Christian Church of Mount Sterling, where he had served as an elder for many years. He was a member of the Hardin Lodge #44 A.F. & A.M. in Mount Sterling. He was a long time member of the Rotary Club where he served as an officer. He was a member of the Association of Illinois Vocational Agriculture teachers, where he served as president of the Conservatory in Quincy. He also was a member of the farm bureau.

Services will be held today at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church of Mount Sterling with Rev. Ambrose Stump officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. at Sheldons Grove Cemetery in Sheldons Grove. Friends may call one hour before the services Wednesday at the church. Hendricker Funeral Home in Mount Sterling is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church of Mount Sterling or the Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice.
