Mathilda Peters

Mathilda Marie Peters, 98, of Rentchler died Monday, April 7, 2003, at Grange Nursing Home in Mascoutah.

She was born Dec. 17, 1904, in New Memphis, a daughter of John and Anna Goodwein Rieken. She married Arthur Paul Peters on Sept. 8, 1927, in St. Charles, Mo. He died Dec. 1, 1965.

She also was preceded in death by one son, William Paul "Buddy" Peters; an infant daughter, Rosalie Peters; one brother, Peter Rieken; two sisters, Annie Schrempp and Magie Oliver; one son-in-law, Walter Broeckling; one daughter-in-law, Mary B. Peters; two grandchildren, Lisa Hansen and Dawn Browder; two great-grandchildren, Matthew Broeckling and Jason Horsley; and one step-greatgrandchild, Christopher Lindsay.

Surviving are one son, Ralph (and Dolores) Peters of New Baden; five daughters, Rita Broeckling of New Baden, Betty (and Earl) Kimbro of Astoria, Margie Hansen of Rawlings, Wyo., Janice (and Charles) Conklin of Belleville, and Genevieve "Dolly" (and Henry "Tex") Browder of Mascoutah; 33 grandchildren; one step-grandchild; 60 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; 26 great-great-grandchildren; and five step-great-great-grandchildren.

She was a retired seamstress from Princess Peggy in Belleville.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid in Mascoutah.

She was active in Mascoutah Senior Citizens, the Kitchen Band and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program at Southwestern Illinois College.

Services were held Friday, April 11, at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden with Rev. Mark Love officiating. Burial was in New Baden City Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Retired Senior Volunteer Program or Zion Lutheran Church.
