Nellie Penington, 102, of Macomb died at 8:10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at The Elms.
She was born Oct. 8, 1899, in Industry, a daughter of Reece Merrick and Arminta Correnne Hiatt Kemper. She married Chester Penington on Dec. 17, 1921. He died April 7, 1974.
She also was preceded in death by one daughter, A. Correnne Eden, one brother and one sister.
Surviving are one son, Richard of Meredosia; one daughter, Vergene Corbitt of Macomb; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She had taught elementary school and had been a bookkeeper.
She was a member of Industry Women's Club and Order of the Eastern Star for more than 65 years.
Services were held Saturday at Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Gilliland officiating. Burial was in Industry Cemetery.
