George Phillips

George Wilbur Phillips, 85, of Pekin, died at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, 1997, at Beechwood Health Care Center.

He was born Sept. 25, 1911, in Browning, a son of Walter and Lily May Crafton Phillips.

Surviving are one sister, Dorothy M. Stubhar of Pekin; one nephew, Rollie Keith Stubhar of Pekin; one niece, Lucille Benson of Peoria; and Penny A. Byrd of Pekin, whom he helped raise.

One brother preceded him in death.

He was an engine watchman for Santa Fe Railroad from 1940 to 1951. He later worked for the New York Central Railroad and the Rock Island Railroad. He last worked for Pekin Hardwood for many years.

Graveside services were held Monday at Glendale Memorial Gardens with Rev. Bruce S. Main officiating. Preston-Hanley Funeral Home in Pekin was in charge of arrangements.
