HELENA M. (MUNSON) PICKINPAUGH

Helena Pickinpaugh

Helena M. Pickinpaugh, 101, of Rushville, died at 4:56 a.m. Monday, Feb. 6, 1995, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital.

She was born Aug. 4, 1893, in Astoria, a daughter of Henry Orson and Rosa Anna Mary Jane Cleary Munson. She married Guy Pickinpaugh on June 30, 1921, in Jacksonville. He died Oct. 8, 1962. One son, Guy Orson Pickinpaugh, also preceded her in death.

Surviving are one daughter, Dorcas Corman of Mount Sterling; two sisters, Marian Munson Smith of Gulf Breeze, Fla., and Harriette Munson Klatt of Madison, Wis.; one granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter.

She graduated from Illinois Women’s College in Jacksonville in 1915. She taught math and English for 18 years at Chaddock Boys Schools and at Littleton High School in Littleton. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Rushville, where she taught the Beacon Lite Sunday School Class. She was former president of the Women’s Society of Christian Service and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was a former member of of the United Methodist Conference Board of Hospitals and Homes. She was a member of the PEO Sisterhood, Chapter AL, and the Order of Eastern Star, Schuyler Chapter 694. She was a member of the Thomas Munson Foundation. She was a member and first president of Schuyler-Brown Historical and Genealogical Society. She was a former board member of Sarah D. Culbertson Memorial Hospital. She was a former president of Rushville Federation of Women.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at her church with Rev. Jerry Watkins officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville. Burial will be in Rushville City Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to her church or Culbertson Memorial Hospital.
