VeteranGeorge P. Proctor, Lewistown Attorney, Dies Suddenly

George P. Proctor, 64, of 802 N. Broadway, Lewistown, died at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, 1980, of an apparent heart attack at the home of his brother-in-law at Karnack.

Born Dec. 15, 1914, in Lewistown, Mr. Proctor was a son of Charles and Louise (Walker) Proctor. He married Mary Ellen Main Dec. 1, 1945, at Karnack.

She survives, along with a son, Charles of Mobile, Ala.; one daughter, Mrs. Sarah Jane Moore of Arlington Heights; three grandchildren; and three brothers, Charles of Decatur, Ga., Edward of Dallas, and John of Minneapolis, Minn.

Mr. Proctor was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church at Lewistown; the Lewistown Kiwanis Club; the Canton Elks Lodge 626; and the Fulton County Bar Association.

He also was a member of the Lewistown Masonic Lodge 104, AF&AM; the Peoria Scottish Rite; the Mohammed Temple Shrine at Peoria; of Lewistown VFW Post 5001; and Lewistown American Legion Post 1.

He was a 1938 graduate of the University of Illinois Law School and had practiced law in Lewistown for 36 years, first associated with the law firm of Fred Mercer and James Scott.

He served in World War II in Patton’s Third Army Division in the counter-intelligence corps. When he returned from the service he was associated with Glenn Ratcliff in his law office and later Charles Wilhelm became a member of the Proctor Law Office. He was most recently a partner in the Proctor and Ewing law firm.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First United Presbyterian Church in Lewistown with Rev. Peter Funch officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.
