VeteranGene A. Putman Of Lewistown Dies

Gene A. Putman, 35, of 921 S. Jefferson St., Lewistown, died at 3:05 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 1980, in Graham Hospital at Canton.

He was employed at the AMAX Coal Mine at Vermont as a foreman.

He was born Oct. 14, 1944, in Canton, a son of Stephen P. and Vivian (Sexton) Johnson. He married Laura Fithian Oct. 17, 1969, in Lewistown. She survives.

Other survivors include his father, of Lewistown; his mother, of the Astoria Care Center; three brothers, Leonard Lyle Putman of Houston, Tex., James J. Putman of Scottsdale, Ariz., and William C. Putman of Canton and two half sisters, Sue Rosenak of Peoria and Pat Michels of Metamora.

Mr. Putman was a member of the Lewistown United Methodist Church. He served in the 82nd Airborne Division of the U.S. Army and in the Vietnam War.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Lewistown United Methodist Church, with Rev. David Hurley officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church at Lewistown or to the Lewistown Rescue Squad.
