Rev. David Powell Dies Thursday

Funeral services for Rev. David J. Powell, 78, of Bowen were held Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev. H. Russell Coulter and Rev. Orval A. Bear officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery.

Rev. Powell died Thursday morning at Carthage Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient since May 4.

He was born Dec. 5, 1891, near Astoria to William and Nora Alice Switzer Powell. On July 10, 1921, he married Myrtle Dean, who survives.

He taught school in Schuyler County several years before entering the ministry in 1927. He had been the pastor at Methodist Churches at Lima, Pennington Point, Adair, Westfield, Ellsworth, Manito, Washburn and Vermont.

Surviving in addition to his widow are one daughter, Mrs. Raymond (Alberta) Ifft of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two brothers, Leslie of Galesburg and Rev. Milton Powell of Jacksonville; one sister, Mrs. Nora Kellum of Maquon; and three grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were an infant son, David Calvin Powell, two brothers, Phillip and William Powell, and one sister Mrs. Martha Walker.
