RACHEL (ANDERSON) PICKERING

Rachel Pickering

IPAVA — “Sometime at eve when the tide is low, I shall slip my moorings and sail away with no response to the friendly hail, in the purple hush of the twilight pale.”

And as the purple hush of the twilight hour of life closed o’er the gentle spirit of Rachel Pickering, she too slipped her moorings and sailed away.

Rachel Anderson, daughter of Robert and Nancy Morgan Anderson, was born in Bernadotte township, March 20, 1856 and departed this life Oct. 31, 1930, aged 74 years. She was united in marriage to Robert Pickering Aug. 7, 1873. To them were born two daughters, Mrs. Mary Alice McAdams, who survives and Nellie May who died in infancy.

Almost her entire life has been spent in Bernadotte township. Mrs. Pickering was converted when but a child and united with the Methodist Episcopal church which faith she held fast until the end, faithfully and lovingly she carried the old rugged cross and to one who has spent so many beautiful hours in the garden walking and talking with the master, this passing is but the entering life eternal promised to all who follow the good shepherd.

Besides her daughter she leaves one sister, Mrs. Amanda Wheeler of Smithfield, the last of a family of twelve. Left to mourn her passing are two granddaughters, Verna and Louisa McAdams.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday at Bernadotte at 1:30 p.m., with interment in the adjacent cemetery by the side of her husband, who preceded her in death Oct. 8, 1920.
