F. M. Pugh, Aged 81, Died Suddenly Saturday Morning At His Home; Funeral Monday.

F. M. Pugh, an aged and highly honored citizen died Saturday at his home in this city, aged 81 years, 9 months and 23 days. Death was due to infirmities of age.

Mr. Pugh had been in poor health for some time but his condition was not thought to be serious. His aged wife heard a peculiar sound in his room at about 6 o’clock in the morning and upon entering found him almost lifeless. Neighbors were summoned and a physician called.

An inquiry was held and it was determined that death was due to natural causes.

The deceased was born April 1, 1838, at Jonesborough, Pa., and came to Astoria in 1882 from near Galesburg, to which place he moved from Tennessee in 1853.

Mr. Pugh was united in marriage to Sadie Snapp at Knoxville, June 12, 1865. Mrs. Sadie Pugh, his wife, Mrs. George Saurbaugh his adopted daughter, and Mrs. Lawrence Moul his granddaughter all survive to mourn his death. He is the last of a family of twelve to pass to the Great Beyond.

He became a member of the Christian church in his early youth while living near Galesburg.

Mr. Pugh was loved and respected by all who knew him. His death was sudden and unexpected. He died sleeping, only to awake in the Great Beyond. He was a resident of Astoria many years and followed the painters trade.

Funeral services were held at the home of George Saurbaugh at 2 o’clock Monday, conducted by Rev. J. E. Fry. Interment in the Astoria cemetery.
