Stella OatmanStella Louise (Pollitt) Oatman, 85, of Canton died at 3:19 p.m. June 14, 2020, at Graham Hospital in Canton.

She was born Nov. 23, 1934, in Canton, a daughter of Charles Luther and Estella Bedwell Pollitt. She married James J. Oatman Sr. on Jan. 12, 1955, in Canton. He preceded her in death on June 25, 2001.

She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Cinda Hodgkins; four brothers, Everett, Leroy, Perry and Gordon; two sisters, Thelma Nolan and Mary Lou Oatman; and one grandson, James Cannon.

Surviving are seven children, Linda (and Roy) Schmidt and Sandra (and Stanley) Burget, both of Lewistown, James “Jimmy” Oatman Jr. of Peoria, Curtis (and Raemarie) Oatman of Fredericktown, Ohio, Katherine (and Terry) Smith of Dunfermline, Marcia (and Bob) Groff of Canton and Mary Carmer of Urbana; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren.

She worked at various restaurants in the area including Harriett’s Café (now Elm Street Café) and the Kountry Kitchen Kafé (later named Arrowhead Café). She later worked for 25 years at the Lewistown Schools in the lunchroom.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Sedgwick Funeral Homes and Crematory in Canton with Dr. Jeanine Standard officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday. Due to COVID-19, we will practice social distancing and are asking that all family members and friends wear masks during the visitation and services. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery following the services on Thursday.
