Frances Pauline Orwig, 85, of Morton died at 10:05 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, at her home.

She was born Sept. 9, 1918, in rural Cuba, a daughter of Charles "Fred" and Vina E. Dick Orwig.

Surviving are two sisters, Tressa (and Raymond) Sheely of Polo and Alice (and LeRoy) Riley of Canton.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

She worked at Caterpillar Inc. from 1943 until retiring in 1980.

She was a World War II Marine Corps Women's Reserve veteran, serving as a mess sergeant. She served as an eight-state area director for the Women Marines Association and served on the Women's Forum for National Security.

Services will be at 11 a.m Thursday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba with Rev. Stacy Tomich officiating, where visitation will be one hour before. Additional visitation will be tonight from 5-7 p.m. at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home in Morton. Burial will be in Baugham Cemetery in rural Smithfield, where military rites will be conducted by Cuba's Russell Smith American Legion Post 533.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
