Elmer O. Onion Well Known Here Dies In Vermont

Mr. Elmer Owen Onion, the son of Jasper and Eliza (Shelly) Onion, was born near Summum, Ill., Oct. 31, 1873, and passed on Thursday, October 16, 1930, at 7 p.m., aged 56 years, 11 months and 15 days.

He was united in marriage to Miss Anna Cooper of Summum, Oct. 27, 1895. To this union were born five children, all living but one [film scratched — illegible].

Mr. Onion and his companion soon after their marriage settled on the old homestead where they lived until 1910. Then he purchased a farm in the Pleasant Dale neighborhood and moved there. In 1925 he moved to Vermont where he built the present home and in which he passed away.

The deceased was a member of the Knights of Pythias of Ipava, where he was a faithful member as long as he was able, always striving to live up to the principle of the Order.

During his residence in and about Vermont he has proved himself an honest and highly respected citizen, making many friends, all of whom will sadly miss him. He was always in favor with any movement that would benefit his town and community.

About a year and a half past he began to decline in health. The nature of his disease proved incurable. Nevertheless, he resorted to various means, hoping he could stay the ravages of the terrible ailment but all to no avail. Eight weeks ago he was compelled to take to his bed and steadily grew worse until death came to his relief.

He leaves to mourn his going besides his companion, four children, namely: Dean of Vermont, Ill., Eugene of Marinette, Wis., Delbert and Olive at home.

Funeral services were held from the home at 2 p.m. Sunday, Rev. M. D. Tremaine officiating. Interment in Vermont cemetery.
