John "Jack" NolanJohn E. "Jack" Nolan, 83, of Lewistown died at 8 p.m. July 17, 2012, at Clayberg Nursing Home in Cuba.

He was born March 4, 1929, in Canton, the son of Carl and Darlene Dawson Nolan. He married Marianne Lester on Aug. 7, 1953. He later married Ramona Murphy on March 3, 1972. She preceded him in death on May 7, 1997.

He also was preceded in death by one daughter, Jodi Nolan Delarosa on July 4, 2010.

Surviving are his children, Jim Nolan of Melbourne, Fla., John (and Rhonda) Nolan of Canton, Jill (and Dave) Nolan Lawver of Lewistown and Joe Nolan of Bryant; two stepchildren, Michael Murphy of Oregon and Mona White of Canton; special family friend, Cindy Essex; 18 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

He was a Staff Sergeant in United States Army.

He was a lifetime member of Lewistown VFW Post 5001.

After completing his service obligation, he worked for Ohio Barge Company. He later went to work for Freeman United Coal Company at Buckheart Mine where he worked as the only registered blacksmith in the state of Illinois.

Services were held Monday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Dave Lawver officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown with military services conducted by Lewistown VFW Post 5001 and Lewistown American Legion Bishop 1.
