Ernest Nebergall

Ernest Alan Nebergall, 72, of Lewistown died at 6:20 a.m. March 14, 2011, at Sunset Manor in Canton.

He was born April 8, 1938, in Canton, the son of Ernest W. and Audrey Deakin Nebergall. He married JoAnn Lingenfelter on June 4, 1960, in Bryant. She died Dec. 30, 1984. He later married Mary Joyce Spratt Sykes on July 16, 1994, in Canton. She survives.

Also surviving are four children, Ernest Lee Nebergall, Terry A. Nebergall and Sara Marie Nebergall, all of Lewistown and Sheryll A. (and David) Wilcoxen of Fiatt; five stepchildren, Cathy (and Chuck) Martindale of Lewistown, Jackie (and Eric) Schenck of Canton, Kay Sykes of Tremont, Jeffery Sykes of Blue Springs, Mo., and Gregory (and Donna) Sykes of Walden, Colo.; one sister, Alice A. Phillips of Flora; 10 grandchildren; 12 step grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one infant sister, Leigh Ann Nebergall.

He attended Illinois Wesleyan University. He was a local banker and the owner of Nebergall Auto Sales in Lewistown.

He was a past member of Lewistown Optimist Club and was a former Boy Scout leader.

He was a sponsor of several Lewistown Park District ball teams and served on the Lewistown Zoning Board.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Reverend Deryck Sonaram officiating. Visitation will be held two hours prior to services at the memorial home. Burial will be in Cuba Cemetery.
