Hallie Newlun

Hallie S. Newlun, 88, formerly of Maples Mill, died at 8:20 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29, 1997, at Astoria Healthcare Center in Astoria.

She was born Feb. 28, 1909, in Banner, the daughter of Richard and Alice Harper Courtney. She married Thomas Newlun on Dec. 3, 1924, in Havana. He died in 1963. She also was preceded in death by one son, Ralph Newlun, two daughters, Eva Marie Newlun and Betty Lawver, two grandchildren, one great-grandchild and two brothers.

Surviving are two sons, Irvin Newlun of Cuba and Francis Newlun of rural Cuba; two daughters, Mabel Selph of Canton and Ruth Conley of Tunnel Hill; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

She was a member of Maples Mill United Methodist Church in Maples Mill.

Services were held Thursday at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton with Rev. Delmar Smith officiating. Burial was in Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana.
