John ModlinJohn W. Modlin, 79, of Macomb died at 6:47 p.m. Sept. 17, 2023, at St. Johns Hospital in Springfield.

He was born May 5, 1944, in Carlinville, a son of John and Wilma Crouch Modlin. He married Diana Groff on Aug. 6, 1966, in Rushville. She survives.

Also surviving are his two children, Shari (and John) Connell and Scott Modlin, both of Macomb; one granddaughter, Kelsi (and Josh Conger) Connell; and three great-grandsons, Jackson, Gabriel and Aldon Conger.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and David Modlin.

He served as a Cadet in the United States Air Force from 1962-63.

He graduated from Western Illinois University in 1970. He was a tool and die maker and worked at NTN Bower Corporation in Macomb. He also helped his father-in-law with roofing and construction.

He was member of the NRA and the Macomb American Legion.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Smithfield Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Dean Potts officiating. Burial will be in the Ipava Cemetery. The Macomb American Legion will provide military rites. A visitation will take place from 6-8 p.m. Sunday. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria is in charge of arrangements.
