He was born Sept. 27, 1938, in Barry, a son of Arthur and Mary Dehart Martin. He married Judith Kay Hunsley on April 22, 1993. She preceded him in death on Jan. 23, 2004.
He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur Martin Jr. and Earl Walter Martin; two sisters, Margaret Handrich and Thelma Martin; and one stepson, Brent Hunsley.
Surviving are one son, Daniel Martin of West Liberty, Iowa; one daughter, Debra (and Jimmy) Derry of Astoria; one stepdaughter, Lisa (and Jeff) Bealmear of Olney; one stepson, Greg (and Caroline) Hunsley of Flowery Branch, Ga.; one brother, Robert Martin of Peoria; three sisters, Nellie Martin and Mary Lou Venvertloh, both of Quincy, and Sally Guswell of Highland; five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
He graduated from Payson/Seymour High School in 1956 and WIU in 1960. He briefly taught school in White Hall and then worked at the ASC office in Lewistown before opening an Allis Chalmers dealership, also in Lewistown. He also worked at Greenview Ag and then for the State of Illinois. He retired from Farmers Mutual Insurance.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 24, at Sherman United Methodist Church in Sherman. A visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. before the service at the church. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria is in charge of arrangements.
