She was born Oct. 11, 1984, in Illinois, the daughter of Tim and Lori Wendt. She married Jon Meilike in 2013. He survives.
Also surviving are one son, Hawk; her parents; her maternal grandparents, Wilmer and Linda Gale; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
She earned her associates degree from Parkland College in Champaign and then went on to earn a BA in English from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
She had recently started a position at the Museum of Natural Sciences.
She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter and friend. She was a supporter of the LGBTQIA community and the disenfranchised. She attended Common Thread Church.
A Celebration of Life was held Monday at Common Thread Church. Live Streaming can be found on the Common Thread Church Facebook Page. Renaissance Funeral Home in Raleigh was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the Sarah Meilike Youth Fund.
