Clause MillerClause J. Miller, 91, formerly of Rushville and Mount Sterling, died July 24, 2020, in Mountain Grove, Mo.

He was born Dec. 19, 1928, a son of Frederick and Hilda Swenson Miller. He married J. Joanne Law on Sept. 29, 1950, in Mount Sterling. She preceded him in death on Oct. 5, 2018.

He also was preceded in death by one son, Gary D. Miller; two brothers, Fred Miller and Bill Miller; three sisters, Millie Laning, Fern Cox and Doris White; and one great-grandson, Nicolas Tantone.

Surviving are five children, Paul (and Judy) Miller of Schuyler County, Jeff (and Michelle) Miller of Katy, Texas, Barbara (and Mark) Boatright of Mountain Grove, Mo., Ron (and Janet) Miller of Salyer, Calif., and Rachel (and Rick) Semon of Havre de Grace, Md.; one sister, Betty Hicks of Bonham, Texas; 19 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in China at the end of World War II, after which he engaged in numerous occupations and entrepreneurial efforts before retiring to a small family farm in Schuyler County.

He was a founding member of the Illinois Meat Goat Producers Association. He served as an elder and lay preacher in various churches including Rushville Church of Christ and Astoria Christian Church.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, at First Christian Church in Mountain Grove, Mo.
