Everett MadsonEverett Wayne “Rawhide” Madson, 86, of Ipava died at 7:39 a.m. May 15, 2017, at his home.

He was born Jan. 4, 1931, in Jerseyville, a son of Nestor and Violet Smith Madson. He married Florence Marilyn Bankes on July 3, 1953, in Havana. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Robert (and Joyce) Madson of Lewistown and Nestor (and Jean) Madson of Canton; two daughters, Nancy (and George) Buswell of Ipava and Susan (and William) Gehring of Topeka; one brother, James (and Twila) Madson of Topeka; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Patricia Combs Stahl.

He was a crane and heavy equipment operator. He also was a foreman for the Metropolitan Sanitary District of Greater Chicago.

He was a member of Operating Engineers Local #649 for 65 years and Berean Christian Church in Ipava.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Berean Christian Church in Ipava with Doug Krukewitt officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Burial will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana.

Memorials may be made to Engineers Scholarship Fund, Inc. or the Metcalf School DHH Program, Normal.
