Richard MartinRichard L. Martin, 90, of Vermont died at 1:52 p.m. June 21, 2016, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.

He was born Jan. 30, 1926, in Beardstown, the son of Walter and Ethel Pace Martin. He married Phyllis E. France on June 28, 1952, in Ipava. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Michael (and Tamara) Martin of Hanover Park, Rick (and Cindy) Martin of Macomb and Eric (and Laurie) Martin of Astoria; and four grandchildren.

He was a coal miner at Amax Coal Mine, working from 1961-85.

He was a Navy veteran, serving from 1944-47 with a rank of Aviation Ordnanceman 2/C.

He was fire chief for the Vermont Fire Department for 20 years.

Cremation rites have been accorded and services will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Vermont Cemetery. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria is in charge of arrangements.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 29, at Vermont Cemetery with Pastor Tim Gilliland officiating. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria is in charge of arrangements.
