Stanley MilbyStanley Eugene “Slug” Milby, 82, of Rushville died at 8:03 a.m. Sept. 26, 2015, at the Rushville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born Feb. 11, 1933, in Rushville, a son of Frank and Lourean Lang Milby.

Surviving are three nephews, John (and Sue) Claassen of Rushville, David (and Cathy) Claassen of Channahon and Glenn Claassen of Ft. Atkinson, Wis.; two nieces, Vickie Dean of Montrose, Colo., and Patti (and Ron) Sorg of Wilmington; nephew-in-law, Dave Gregory of Joliet; and several great- and great-great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Glen and Frank Milby; one sister, Evelyn Lohry; one sister–in-law, Jenette Milby; one niece, Debbie Gregory; and one nephew-in-law, Ed Dean.

He was raised and educated in Rushville and went on to honorably serve in the United States Army during the Korean War. He played golf on the Army team, that allowed him to travel throughout many countries. He returned to Rushville after his honorable discharge in 1955.

He worked as a meat cutter for the Mickelberry Meat Packing Company, Bartlow Brothers Meat Packing Company, Oscar Mayer and Company and Excel Corporation before retiring. He was involved with the Scripps Park Golf Course for over 70 years, starting as a caddy at age 12 and moving on to manage the pro-shop.

He was a member of Schuyler American Legion Post #4, Guthrie Pierce Post #1239 Veterans of Foreign Wars; the Military Honors Guard, playing taps on bugle at funerals and other services; and the Beardstown Elks Lodge #1007 B.P.O.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. John Sowers officiating. Military services will follow by a U.S. Army Honors Detail, Schuyler American Legion Post #4 and Guthrie Pierce Post #1239 VFW. Inurnment will be in Rushville City Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
