He was born May 25, 1947, in Rushville, the son of Floyd Edward and Betty Jane Esslinger Menely. He married Mary Jane Zeigler on Sept. 22, 1973, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Springfield. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Matthew Menely of Aberdeen, S.D.; one sister, Marilyn (and Wayne) Aden of Golden; one nephew, John (and Diann) Aden; one niece, Christy (and David) Kampe; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He graduated from Rushville High School and Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.
He was a member of the National Rifle Association and a former member of Rushville First Presbyterian Church.
He worked for Illinois Secretary of State’s office in Springfield for 33 and one half years, retiring in 2002. He was currently working with the SCOPE program for Springfield School District #186.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. Steve Akins officiating. Burial will follow in Rushville City Cemetery.
