James Murphy

James B. Murphy, 87, of Cuba died at 12:51 p.m. Aug. 28, 2010, at Renaissance Care Center in Canton.

He was born Oct. 24, 1922, in Cuba, a son of James and Elizabeth Kerr Murphy. He married Virginia Rose Goldsmith on Nov. 12, 1942, in Palmyra, Mo. She died Sept. 15, 2002.

He also was preceded in death by two daughters.

Surviving are one brother, Benjamin Murphy of Cuba; two sisters, Myrtle Goldsmith and Virginia “Pet” Baker, both of Cuba; and one grandchild.

He retired from International Harvester in Canton, where he was a union steward.

He was a member of Cuba Lions Club and served as Cuba Alderman and police commissioner.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Cuba Cemetery with Reverend Amy Wharton officiating. Visitation will be held from 10-10:45 a.m. Friday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
