Betty MaloneBetty June Malone, 82, of Springfield, formerly of Rushville, died at 9:20 p.m. July 16, 2010, at her home.

She was born Oct. 25, 1927, in Canton, a daughter of George and Rosa Wages Cowden. She married Claude E. Malone on July 28, 1945, in Lewistown. He preceded her in death on Oct. 21, 2005.

She also was preceded in death by four siblings; one son, Steven Malone; and one great-grandson, Tyler Malone.

Surviving are eight children, Layton (and Dee) Malone of Smithfield, Linda Marie Malone Bordner of Creve Coeur, Phyllis (and Joseph) O’Brien, Alma (and John) Johnson and Connie Wood, all of Springfield, Gloria (and Keith) Shaw of Dubuque, Iowa, C. J. (and Donise) Malone of Bella Vista, Ark., and Wesley (and Cindy) Malone of Gentry, Ark.; three siblings, Pauline Smith of Nowata, Okla., Helen (and Dale) Lenhausen of Fairview and George “Bud” Cowden of Canton; 30 grandchildren; and 41 great-grandchildren.

She was a licensed practical nurse and a homemaker.

A private family graveside service was held at the family lot in Christian Neck Cemetery northeast of Rushville. Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
