Fern MarkleyFern C. Markley, 94, of Piqua, Ohio, died at 1:55 p.m. April 15, 2010, at her residence.

She was born May 2, 1915, in Urbana, a daughter of Luther E. and Goldie Applegate Brown. She married Robert C. Markley on July 11, 1936, in Dayton, Ohio. He preceded her in death on July 3, 1953.

She also was preceded in death by two brothers, one sister and two grandchildren.

Surviving are one son, Robert Markley of Piqua; four daughters, Sally (and Ben) Murphey of Troy, and Betty (and Cliff) Wells, Katie Chambers and Patty Markley, all of Piqua; one brother, Kenneth Brown of California; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was a member of Lockington United Methodist Church, and its Footprints on the Heart Support Group at the church.

She was a graduate of Roosevelt High School Class of 1934 in Dayton.

She worked at the former Murphy’s department store as a clerk, BVD Underwear Company, Atlas Underwear Company and Piqua Memorial Hospital in the dietary department for 17 years, retiring in 1986.

Services were held Monday at Jamieson and Yannucci Funeral Home in Ohio with James F. Wheeler officiating. Burial was in Forest Hill Cemetery.
