Verna MaxwellVerna G. Maxwell, 87, of Rushville died at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 5, 2008, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.

She was born March 22, 1920, in Bluff City, a daughter of Benjamin H. and Mary Dixon Sackman. She married John S. Maxwell on March 18, 1938, in Keokuk, Iowa. He died March 1, 1968.

She also was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Melody Maxwell; three sisters, Geraldine Sackman, Mildred Etter and Bernice Briney; and three brothers, James, Bennie and Raymond Sackman.

Surviving are one daughter, Linda (and Larry) Runkle of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; seven sons, Robert (and Marna) Maxwell of Browning; Terry (and Oma) Maxwell of Littleton, N.C.; Buddy Maxwell of Murphysboro, Steve (and Elizabeth) Maxwell and Laverne (and Janet) Maxwell, both of Rushville, Fritz (and Stefanee) Maxwell of Athens and Monte (and Dorothy) Maxwell of Beardstown; one brother, Leonard (and Betty) Sackman of Peoria; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

She was employed at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.

Services were held Saturday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Gary Sheets officiating. Burial was in Astoria Cemetery.
