VeteranRussell McCombs

Russell Lloyd McCombs, 89, of Beardstown died Sunday, April 13, 2003, at Heritage Manor East Nursing Home in Beardstown.

He was born Jan. 5, 1914, in Browning, a son of William and Verna Burton McCombs. He married Lillian Adkison on March 20, 1943, in Palmyra, Mo. She survives.

Also surviving are five sons, Russell Jr. (and Betty), William (and Carol), Benjamin (and Anett), Timothy (and Lisa) and David, all of Beardstown; three daughters, Marsha (and Larry) Seward and Mary Ann (and Scott) Davis, both of Beardstown, and Judy (and David) Gormon of Pekin; 21 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, one sister and two daughters, Margaret Goss and Inez Redding.

A World War II Army veteran, he was a member of the American Legion.

He owned and operated Russ' Cab for many years and he also retired from the city of Beards-town. He was a member of the Moose Lodge.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Goodwin Funeral Home, where visitation will be one hour before. Rev. Eric Crawford will officiate. Burial will be in Messerer Cemetery in Browning.

Memorials may be made to Cass-Schuyler County Hospice, the Heritage Manor East activity department or Calvary Baptist Church.
