MARILYN A. (STEWART) MARTINDALE

Marilyn Martindale

Marilyn A. Martindale, 72, of Lewistown died at 6:20 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, at Heritage Manor in Bloomington.

She was born July 28, 1929, in Industry Township, McDonough County, the daughter of Earl and Grace Becthol Stewart. She married Verle A. Martindale in January 1958 in Peoria. He died Aug. 27, 1979.

She also was preceded in death by two brothers.

Surviving are one son, Jeff (and Debbie) Martindale of McLean; one stepdaughter, Verlene Riddle of Los Angeles; one stepson, George (and Cynthia) Martindale of Huntington Beach, Calif.; three granddaughters; two stepgrandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She graduated from Western Illinois University in 1951 and taught school in rural Fulton County for one year. She then taught at Bardolph Grade School from 1952 to 1956. She taught for Peoria Public School District 150 for 28 years, retiring in 1984.

She was assistant librarian for the Carnegie Library in Lewistown and church secretary for United Methodist Church in Lewistown.

She worked for the Spoon River Scenic Drive Association, serving as the Fall Festival chairwoman several times, as well as serving on several other committees.

She was a 50-year member of Ipava Order of Eastern Star 226, where she was a past worthy matron.

She was a member of Fulton County Genealogical Society and United Methodist Church in Lewistown.

Services were held Tuesday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Ipava. Burial was in Howard Cemetery in Smithfield.
