Marvin Mapes

Marvin D. Mapes, 87, of Kilbourne died at 10:45 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13, 2001, at Menard Convalescent Center in Petersburg.

He was born Nov. 25, 1913, in Waterville, Kan., a son of Arthur and Fannie Pomeroy Mapes. He married Etta Spears on May 28, 1935, in Springfield. She died Jan. 9, 1974.

Surviving are two sons, Daniel (and Carrol) of Kilbourne and Harold (and Carolyn) of Sturgis, Mich.; one stepdaughter, Glenna Middleton of Topeka; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, Jesse of Ocean Springs, Miss.; and two sisters, Dorothy Scheele of Beatrice, Neb., and Marjorie Nevitt of Wichita, Kan.

He was a farmer.

He was a member of Summum Christian Church.

Services were held Thursday at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana with Rev. Jerry Darden officiating. Burial was in Ashland Cemetery in Ashland.
