James "Kenny" McWhorter, 69, of Canton died at 5:20 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2000, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.

He was born Jan 27, 1931, in Hustonville, Ky., a son of Arch and Lillie V. Turpen McWhorter. He married Maggie Qualls. He later married Marcella Allen.

Surviving are one son, Kenneth of Flora, Ind.; four daughters, Bertha Pippenger of Ellettsville, Ind., Mary Rowland of Largo, Fla., Fayrene Mocherman of Pittsboro, Ind., and Jo Cena Shake of Glasford; eight grandchildren; and two brothers, Irrie and Owen, both of Canton.

He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, one great-grandchild, one brother and one sister.

He worked at Canton International Harvester Corporation until its close and then was an independent truck driver until retirement. He was in construction in the Canton area.

He was an Army veteran and also served in the National Guard. He was an honorary member of the Canton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1984.

He was a member of Canton First Christian Church and the Canton Masonic Lodge 734, AF&AM.

Services were held Tuesday at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home with Gene Danner officiating. Burial was in White Chapel Memory Gardens.

Memorials may be made to his church or the Masonic Lodge Educational Fund.
