J. Harold Miller

J. Harold Miller, 89, died on Monday, May 19, 1997, at Cox Medical Center North in Springfield, Mo.

He was born on a farm near Astoria, the son of William and Margaret Ruth Miller on Aug. 5, 1907. He was the eldest of four children, one of whom died in infancy.

He is survived by two sisters, Ruth Ausmus of Clayton and Frances Dennen of Springfield, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.

Harold farmed in Illinois until 1956, when he moved to Springfield, Mo., and married Mary Elizabeth Dennen, who preceded him in death in 1982. He worked as a landscape gardener and then as a custodian at a nursing home until his retirement.

He attended Sunday School and church faithfully, and at age 15 joined the Woodland Church of the Brethren near Astoria. Harold and Mary were charter members of the Good Shepherd Church of the Brethren in Springfield, Mo.

Harold was a simple, humble man, who loved to share stories of unusual happenings or accomplishments of others. His family, church, and friends who will miss him, know that he left this life as he had lived, with God at his side.

Memorial services were held on May 22 at Greenlawn Funeral Home North in Springfield, Mo., with burial at Rose Hill Cemetery near Willard, Mo.
