Laymond O. Miller, 77, of Sterling, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 1997, in Ft. Meyers, Fla.

He was born June 18, 1919, in Dodgeville, a son of Oscar and Molly Kinney Miller. He married M. Eileen Utsinger on Feb. 28, 1942, in Kahoka, Mo. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Jane and Mick Morgan and Judy and Jim Blair, both of Chadwick; two sons, Jim and Linda Miller of Lanark and Jerry and Peggy Miller of Springfield; one sister, Nina Johnson of Table Grove; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, five brothers and one grandson.

He served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed at Wahl Clipper Corp. for 40 years until his retirement in January 1985 as plant superintendent.

A graduate of the Class of 1937 from Bushnell High School, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion Post 296, Moose Lodge #726, and the Sterling Lions Club, where he was presented the Melvin-Jones Fellow Award. He also served as board member of the Northwest Illinois Credit Union.

Services were held Tuesday at the Melvin-Schilling Funeral Home in Sterling, with Rev. Dan Rusmisel officiating. Burial was in Oak Knoll Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to the Lions Club.
