VeteranEarle Mathias Of Pekin Dies

Earle F. Mathias, 68, of 103 Pin Oak Drive, Pekin, died at 12:46 p.m. Thursday, May 24, 1990, at Mason District Hospital in Havana after becoming ill at the Isaak Walton Campground near Summum.

He was born Feb. 17, 1922, in Green Valley, a son of Orval and Helen Parlier Mathias. He married Virginia L. Herren on Sept. 6, 1942, in Pekin. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Dennis R. of rural Pekin; one daughter, Mrs. Douglas (Kandis) Ramme of rural Manito; his stepmother, Clara Mathias of Pekin; and five grandchildren.

He worked for Coca Cola Bottling Co. in Peoria for 44 years, retiring as fleet superintendent in 1984. He was a member of Pekin Elks Lodge 1271 and Peoria Traffic Club. A member of the Izaak Walton League of America, he was a member and board member of the Havana Chapter of the League.

He was a World War II Army veteran and an avid fisherman and outdoor person.

He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Pekin where funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday with Rev. John A. Noonan Jr. officiating. Burial was in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin. Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, was in charge of arrangements.
