Russell Alan Martin, 27, was electrocuted Wednesday, Sept. 11, 1985, while at work on the Chandler Hog Farm near Oakford. He was pronounced dead at 12:15 p.m. at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield following the farm accident.
Martin was reportedly working at the hog farm when he came in contact with some live electrical wires. He reportedly climbed to the top of a grain bin to free a direct feed system, when he either slipped or accidentally touched a 3,000-volt electrical wire with the wooden-handled steel pipe he was using to free the feed system.
Survivors include his wife, the former Deanne Griffie; one son, 2½ weeks old; his parents, Russell and Iola Martin of rural Browning; a grandmother, Mrs. Mae Martin of Beardstown.
Lintner-Buchanan Funeral Home of Chandlerville was in charge of services.
