Mrs. John L. Maltby, Former Resident Dies Aug. 12

Mrs. John L. (Linda L.) Maltby, 37, of 1201 38th St., Rock Island, died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 1980, at University Hospital, Iowa City. She underwent heart surgery July 30.

Linda L. Lear was born in Moline, a daughter of Richard N. and Thelma Stambaugh Lear.

She was reared and educated in Astoria, moving to Rock Island in 1959. She married John L. Maltby in October 1960 in Rock Island.

She was employed as a salesperson in the ready-to-wear department at McCabe’s Department Store, Rock Island. She later worked in the cafeteria at Augustana College, until 1977.

Survivors include her widower, her parents, of Rock Island; three sons, Russell, Shawn and Curtis, all at home; maternal grandfather, Jesse W. Stambaugh, Astoria, and three sisters, Mrs. Anna Marie Maltby and Mrs. Patricia Dow, both of Rock Island, and Mrs. Rose Marie Long, Canton.

Funeral services were held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Wheelan Funeral Home in Rock Island with Rev. Robert O. Williams officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery in Rock Island.

Memorials may be made to the heart fund.

Attending services for Mrs. Maltby from our area included her grandfather, Jesse Stambaugh of Astoria; Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Stambaugh of Beardstown; and Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Stambaugh of Springfield.
